Hi there again, I hope you are well. This post is another Motivational/Developemental piece which I think will be very useful to you as you move along the course of your career.I am referring to a phenomenon called the Emotional Cycle of Change.
What do I mean by this? Well simply put, when you advance through a plan of action with say a new product-for argument’s sake learning ‘Affiliate Marketing’-you begin at a point where you have just bought in and are looking through the course, and feeling all pumped up for the road ahead. The product is all shiny new and ready to go. But you know very little and so you begin to learn what is involved.
If you can imagine a line across a page, above which is Optimism, below which is pessimism, then you are starting in a position of Unaware Optimism. You feel ready for it. But then as you progress you pleasure starts to turn to pain as you realise what you’re going to have to do! Your mindset changes to one of self doubt and uncertainty, or pessimism. All a part of this Emotional Cycle of Change.
Awareness can bring shocks, and for the moment your informed state is starting to get a bit less hopeful of a positive outcome, and worse is to follow as you strive to get somewhere with this ‘wretched’ affiliate marketing gig.
In fact things start looking so bad that you trough out in what is known as the ‘Valley of Despair.’ This is where you start looking for your out and for another opportunity to go for. After all this course is way too hard and besides you do not feel fulfilled!
Now you can go off and find another product to follow, another strategy or tactic. Sure enough that will initially give you what you want, including an emotional hit. But the chances are you will end up back here again and so on. So the trick in the ‘ Valley of Despair’ is not to give in, but to carry on until you see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. You start to feel better about yourself as your competence grows and suddenly you are crossing over the line into optimism, to a point of informed optimism. Why? because you know something about the game and you are feeling happier.
And of course you then continue to grow more certain about this business and become more competent at it until finally you have reached the point of being successful at it. You have run the gamut of the Emotional Cycle of Change.
Of course the message is this: Things may get very tough indeed but so long as you have plan which is viable and leads in the right direction then stick to it and you may well find it works out great in the end.
So to anyone feeling like throwing in the towel, bear with it. You will probably be quite glad you did not in the end. Thank you and take care now!
